There are so many possibilities for the future of the Organics Fresh & Wild farm, and many of our visitors have fantastic ideas about business opportunities or better production methods which we would like to keep for future implementation.  So this is the place where we will record all those ideasfor everyone to see, comment on, and be inspired by.

Being custodians of Australia’s valuable agricultural land in the current economic and social climate is a challenging task. We see education as being the primary means through which the message of ‘care and attention’ which the land needs, can reach a greater audience.  If the future of food production in Australia (and indeed the world) is to be secured and managed sustainably, more people need to be involved with their hands in the dirt and with a commitment to environmentally and socially sustainable practices.

Ideas so far:

Community farming: Bringing the community together to work the land allows connections to be made and brings food production back to it’s rightful place at the center of the community.  Having more than one entity involed financially in the farm would allow more capital input for infrastructure improvements, educational events, and basic care for the land.

Organic Farm Kitchen / Cafe / Restaurant:

Where do you ‘hang out’ in Byron these days?  Where do you find real food, creativity, great music and the soul of the local community?  Have you noticed that there are actually NO ORGANIC RESTAURANTS in Byron Bay???!!  The Organics Fresh & Wild farm is located with easy access to the surrounding towns of Mullum, Brunswick Heads, Byron and Bangalow; we already have the food here waiting to be eaten; any number of our volunteers and wwoofers have amazing musical skills; and by the time our wwoofers leave us, they are all much improved cooks!  Sound like a perfect formula for a Cafe.   Anyone interested??

Educational Farm Tours: We have already hosted several school visits, but would like this to become a regular occurance, building up a relationship with the schools involved.  Also, extending this to include adults would be great.

Cooking and Food Preparation Classes:

Making the connection between the farm and the plate requires cooking and food preparation skills.  Also educating consumers in the benefits of organically grown, nutrient dense produce (and allowing them to taste the difference) is essential.  We already have several people interested in teaching Raw Food preparation.

Holiday Accommodation: We would like to have more accommodation space to allow visitors to stay and enjoy the food for longer, relax and have the opportunity to see a commercial farm in action.  This could be integrated with the volunteer community food production program.

Creative Learning Facility: We would love to be able to pass on more knowledge and nurture creativity in an educational space.

Community Hub:

A Community Hub could bring together the Farm Cafe, Creative Learning space, a Community Kitchen, Farm Shop and Health & Wellbeing facility under one roof.  Generating a ‘PLACE’ for meeting discussion, connections, education and creativity is our vision………….

..

Charity Support: We would like to have time to support more local food orientated carities.
